Letters to the Editor Policy
-- Letters must be signed by the author and include address and phone (addresses and phone numbers are not published, they are used for verification purposes). If a letter is submitted “as an organization,” the organization’s president must sign it.
-- The letters section has no political inclination. All views are published.
-- Readers are free to either agree or disagree with any of the opinions, stories or news reports published in the newspaper.
-- Writers are required to source their information accurately; it is not the responsibility of the newspaper. The publication of a letter is not an endorsement of that viewpoint by the newspaper. Authors of letters are not employed by this newspaper. If an employee decides to write a letter to the editor, they will be acknowledged as such.
-- Letters have priority over columns on the viewpoints page unless columns cannot be delayed.
-- The Boomerang shall publish all letters to the editor that are not obscene or libelous and do not make racial or religious denigrations. Authors shall be given the opportunity to revise unacceptable letters.
-- Decision to publish the letter shall not be determined by the “wrongness” or “rightness” of the letter’s viewpoint as compared to the staff view.
